Fabio Namiki
Architect & Urban Designer
Fabio is a registered architect and urban designer with over 25 years of professional experience. For the past decade, he has been contributing to projects throughout New Zealand, bringing an integrated design perspective shaped by his background as an architect and urbanist.Educated in Brazil in a multidisciplinary architectural program that combines architecture, urban planning, landscape architecture, and urban design, Fabio approaches every project with a holistic mindset. He believes the built environment cannot be separated into isolated disciplines — buildings, landscapes, streets, and public spaces must be conceived together to create places that are functional, meaningful, and enduring.
At Transurban, Fabio has worked across a broad range of projects, including residential developments, subdivisions, community facilities, playgrounds, landscape design, and urban design assessments. His work focuses on strengthening the relationship between people, place, and context, ensuring that developments respond to their surroundings and community needs.
Fabio has also taught architecture in Brazil and at the University of Auckland (Professional Teaching Fellow), where he highlighted the importance of urban design thinking in architectural education — encouraging future architects to view their work within a broader urban and social context. He also served for seven years as coordinator of the Brazilian Standards for Playground Safety, contributing to the development of national safety guidelines.
Outside of work, he enjoys exploring New Zealand with his partner on foot, by bike, and by kayak. He is a black belt in judo, his main mode of transport is by bike, and he has two beautiful children.
